ABOUT

NINE O ARTS

I’m a London-based visual artist working primarily in portrait painting shaped by over 25 years. My practice focuses on presence — how people carry identity, history, and emotional weight — rather than surface likeness alone.

Studio process

My work moves across two connected strands: commissioned portraiture and studio-led painting. Commissions are created for private clients, families, and organisations, and are shaped through reference, conversation, and intent. Each piece is produced as a one-of-one painting, tailored in scale and finish, and designed to live meaningfully within a space. I don’t repeat compositions or follow templates; every commission is approached as its own process.

Alongside commissioned work, my wider studio practice explores culture, music, identity, and collective energy through more expressive portraiture. These works allow for experimentation and intensity, and sit alongside commissions as part of a broader, evolving practice.

I am a Fine Art graduate of Nottingham Trent University and have worked as a professional artist since 1999. In addition to studio work, I regularly deliver portrait-based workshops for healthcare, education, and community organisations, including ongoing work in partnership with Volunteer Centre Hackney. These workshops are practical, accessible, and focused on creative confidence rather than prior experience.

My practice sits between fine art and lived reality — calm where it needs to be, expressive where it can be, and always grounded in respect for the subject.
